Apparently he did “test” it by snapping a Polaroid of himself and insisted there was no face in the photo. My best guess is it just didn’t develop

I’ve been reading up on this, and not only is it true, it’s actually the inspiration for the Dunning-Kruger effect: prof Dunning saw it in the 1996 World Almanac.
